The Truth about Sugar and Diabetes

Many people think that if they have diabetes, they can never eat cakes or sweets again. You can even still eat your favorite desserts. You just need to make a set for a special occasion, like a birthday or wedding. I recently ate a small amount of cake at a friend's wedding, and it didn't lower my blood sugar.

Myths about sugar

The myth that sugar causes diabetes is the most common fact for most people. Experts have proven that eating sugary foods is not linked to the development of diabetes. Diabetes is a problem of overeating and obesity. The body has never cared where foods like cakes or hamburgers come from. The real culprit is excessive weight gain.

In the past, doctors advised diabetics to completely avoid all foods containing sugar. They believed that eating sugary foods raised blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that the type of carbohydrate strongly influences the increase in blood sugar. The total amount of carbohydrates also influences the increase in blood sugar. Experts say that even small amounts of carbohydrates can help maintain blood sugar levels by replacing carbohydrate-containing foods in the diet.

Don't eat too many sweets. Buy and eat away from home for better control. Eat dessert with someone else and share it with them.
