Dutch Recipes and Cuisine

Dutch cuisine is strongly influenced by the country's agricultural products and its history as a maritime nation. In the Netherlands, people eat seafood (cod, eel, herring, mackerel, mussels, oysters, flounder, salmon, sardines, flatfish, shrimp, trout, and tuna). Beef, chicken, and pork are the most popular meats.

The Dutch colonial history has also influenced the cuisine of the country. The Netherlands has been linked to the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) for about 250 years, and Indonesian cuisine has deep roots in the Dutch palate. Indonesian dishes like nasi goreng (spicy rice with chicken or pork) have also become Dutch cuisine!

Other popular Dutch dishes are.

·         Balkenbraai is a liver cheese (Leverworst) made from pork, but containing enough pork liver to give it its characteristic liver cheese taste. Cut it into slices one centimeter thick and fry it.
